Yama Exclusive: Narumi Craft Sake

Traditionally, sake is served with Japanese food. But have you considered pairing a glass of sake with a bowl of pasta?

If you’re a big fan of sake and wine, you’re in the right place. Uniquely brewed in small batches, Narumi Craft Sake is our bespoke junmai daiginjo, the highest grade and most premium sake named after our very own sake sommelier, Narumi. Blending traditional brewing methods with modern techniques to create distinct flavors, Narumi Craft Sake features delicate notes of citrus and vanilla, striking a perfect balance of sweetness and dryness that complements excellently to everyday dishes such as tacos, burgers, and pizza.

It all started with a love for dance

At the heart of Narumi Craft Sake is Narumi’s passion for dance and jazz. Growing up, she wanted to be a dancer, but became an accountant at the advice of her mom. Nonetheless, Narumi continued to explore dance as her creative outlet, finding joy in freely moving her body to the rhythm of the music. Inspired by jazz as an artistic expression of spontaneity and improvisation, Narumi Craft Sake aims to represent the versatility of life’s moments that ebb and flow naturally.

About Sake

Sake has been an integral part of traditional Japanese culture for centuries. According to the Japan Craft Sake Brewing Association, craft sake typically incorporates processes not legally adopted in traditional sake production in Japan but is often made with the same essential ingredients — rice, koji (a fermentation starter), yeast and water.

As a pure drink, sake is gluten-free and contains no sulfites, tannins, and other preservatives. Its all-natural ingredients are easier on the body compared to other spirits. Plus, premium sake is almost guaranteed to leave you hangover-free.

Here at Yama Sushi Marketplace, we have expanded our selection of imported Japanese products over the years to include the largest collection of sake in Los Angeles. Boasting over 200 varieties, the newest addition of Narumi Craft Sake is our tribute to Yama’s rich history and our loyal LA community.

Tips from a Sake Sommelier

For those who are new to sake and are interested in trying sake, here are a few helpful tips from Narumi:

  • Temperature matters! Depending on the sake type, you can enjoy it either warm or chilled. Premium craft sakes like this one are delicious served chilled. Meanwhile, lower-grade sakes are best served warm.

  • While it’s traditional to serve sake in a ceramic set, don’t be afraid to switch it up depending on what you’re eating. For instance, when enjoying pasta, ditch the wine and serve sake in a wine glass. This truly allows its aroma to shine!

  • Get to know your sake. Take small sips and take notice of the taste and aromas. To deepen your understanding of this unique drink, consider taking a sake tasting class like our monthly series with Narumi at our West LA and K-Town store!

Narumi has dedicated many years to learning the art of sake, including its fascinating history, importance in Japanese culture, varieties and more. Pouring her heart into this new product – from its complex flavors to the beautifully-designed label that reflects its fun and vibrant essence – she hopes everyone will enjoy a taste of Narumi.
